“Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding darkness to a night devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ![]() The image is the Lunar Masculine card from the Divine Muses Oracle and represents the sensitive warrior practicing the nonviolence philosophy, as Dr. King spoke about in the Lorraine Motel just hours before he was assassinated in April 1968. He sat on his bed and went over the principles of nonviolence with his entourage....not strategy, but the importance of nonviolence. In the guidebook, I use the above Dr. King quote (Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community? p. 67) in connection with the Lunar Masculine archetype, the sensitive warrior who uses words and compassion as his weaponry of choice, instead of violence. May we remember his message of love and continue to evolve and learn from our mistakes. Today it seems we are more divided than ever. Hate and fear of change continue to create bigger divides; compassion and an open mind can bring us together and open the door to communication and understanding.
