Today is 15˚ Scorpio and marks Solar Samhain, the exact solar midpoint of Equinox & Solstice. The Sabian message for 15 degrees Scorpio is, “A Girl’s Face Breaking into a Smile.” Sabian symbols are metaphorical phrases that describe each astrological degree of the zodiac, for which there are 360. (they’re like messages from an oracle!) Mercury Retrograde is today at 6:05pm PDT and Mercury Stations Direct on election day this year! The last time Mercury Stationed on an election day was in the 2000 election, but Mercury Stationed RX that year. If you remember, the voting punch machines in Florida were not functioning correctly, and we saw a national debacle around “hanging chads” which ensued for weeks before Al Gore conceded on Dec 13th. Do you believe in magic? Today’s Full Moon tarot card is the Lua Tarot's Magician. October skies will bless us with two magical Full Moons: today and Halloween, a true blue moon. It has been a rough couple of weeks. We’re seeing extra tension in the world thanks to Mars retrograde. But, we have a chance to step out of the conflict of warrior Mars and return to our central inner power. “The happiness of man consists in life. And life is in labor...The vocation of every man and woman is to serve other people.” —Lev Tolstoy Blessed New Moon in Virgo! Here we have the Lua Tarot Hermit who is: the Prophet of the Eternal and the Magus of the Voice of Power, ruled by Virgo. The Hermit thrives in solitude, but she is service-oriented, connecting to humankind with deep compassion. Blessed Full Moon! Tonight's Full Moon in Pisces (10:22PM PDT) is ripe for heart-opening magic, beaming compassion and love down to Earth. I invite you to cast and charge this Tarot Spell to raise the energies of unity and healing during these times of upheaval. Calling all witches, mages, and practitioners of the healing and mystical arts! I invite you to erect this tarot spell, during the Pisces Full Moon, onto your altar or reading table to raise the energies of unity and healing during these times of upheaval. In the name of Oneness against the forces of division. Sun is in Leo now, and it’s officially Leo Season with the Leo moon today too (through 4:40pm PDT) should bring a blast of creativity, and playful energy. And let’s be honest, some drama too, it is Leo after all! The Strength card is from the upcoming Lua Tarot. It’s basically done! Booklet is in editing mode, and I’m now working on the box art. Cards are at the printer, and I’m waiting on the proof. Yay! This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is exact tonight at 9:44pm PDT in Capricorn. It’s the USA’s birthday too, and it has been experiencing major difficult times. I keep talking about shadow work in my astrology posts, but, it’s a Capricorn Lunar Eclipse, and he rules the Devil card, so it comes up again! The Devil card is about the shadow and the ego. He shows us where we have attachment and fear. It’s the card of materialism and being addicted to stuff, like money. It’s also the card of bondage and enslavement. Can you believe it’s Summer?! It honestly doesn’t feel like it to me. But, it has been rainy and gray today here in Portland, and that vibe is certainly reflecting in the astrology. We have a potent Solstice Solar Eclipse that is exact tonight 11:41PM PDT. The New Moon moves into Cancer at 11:02PM and the Sun moves into Cancer at 2:44PM. Which means that this powerful Solar Eclipse portal is a Cancerian one. It is emotionally-based with a focus around home, family and femininity. We will likely be super sensitive, needy and want to snuggle in with people or things for comfort. Venus retrograde (Rx) started late last night at 11:45pm PDT in Gemini. She joins Pluto (Rx since April 25th) and Saturn (Rx since Sunday). Jupiter will be joining them tomorrow at 7:32am PDT. Venus reflects love, beauty, pleasure, sensuality, and governs intimacy and relationships. Venus’s Rx journey happens once every 18 months for 40 to 44 days. Spring Equinox is exact tonight at 8:49pm PST (0° Aries) with the waning Dark Moon in Aquarius. While it is beautiful and sunshine-y here in Portland, Ore., we’re asked to practice social distancing, when what we really want to do is socialize and share in the buzz of excitement as the Sun brings life back to the earth in the Northern Hemisphere. Spring Equinox is the time to celebrate the sign of life’s return from Winter. However, it’s also a time to honor the balance of light and dark, since the Equinox splits the day and night equally. During the Spring and Fall Equinoxes we honor balance. The Sun rises directly in the East and sets directly in the West. Two bits of news. 1) I got my Lua Tarot sample cards today and 2) the Sun enters Pisces tonight at 8:57pm PST! Pisces is a highly emotional and sensitive sign. Its dual energy can present us with two sides. On one hand, Pisces are artistic, compassionate and sensitive, and highly mystical and psychic. On the other hand, they can become easily ungrounded, be isolating and tend towards denial, wanting to escape reality perhaps via addiction or dependency. Incoming. Mercury is going Rx. Forewarned is forearmed Mercury in Pisces enters its Storm on Thursday as it slows down and stations retrograde (Rx) Sunday, February 16 at 4:54pm PST and remains in Rx until March 9 (Storm until 3/19/20)! Are you feeling its effects yet? Mercury Rx is not favorable for new projects. It is the ideal time to review, reflect, regroup, rethink and redo! Here’s part of a card from my new deck, the Lua Tarot. Today at 12:02 pm PST, Venus goes into Aries. Venus in Aries is associated with the Four of Wands. This card is about sharing in the joy and festivities of a commemoration, such as a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or milestone of some sort. The message is about the gratitude and abundance we find in our community or home and the stability gained from them. Venus will be in Aries until March 4th. The transition today can create discomfort since Venus tends to focus on others and Aries is the sign of selfhood. If you are more of a giver, then the next four weeks will bring lessons around how to accept things...like love...and other gifts from others. Venus in Aries wants to make love and mischief. Their combo brings adventure (and risk), excitement and passionate creativity! Out with the old, in with the new! The New Moon in Aquarius begins at 1:42pm PST. Today's double Aquarius energy (Sun and Moon, but Mercury has also been in Aquarius) brings the Tarot Star’s energy. Though Aquarius is an air sign, she's the Water Bearer, bringing renewal and new ideas. Aquarius is the visionary, the inventor, the humanitarian, and the revolutionary. And she brings progress! Some astrologers believe that the Age of Aquarius dawned in the 60s, but others say that the Aquarian Age hasn't really begun—that December 21st's Great Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction will be the true gateway to the Age of Aquarius. (That conjunction will be in Aquarius.) I think it's a bit of both. That we've been in that doorway of transition! (If you don't know an astrological age lasts 2000 to 2100 years, and we're leaving the Age of Pisces.) Uranus stations direct today (5:49pm PST)! Uranus has been retrograde in Taurus since August 11th 2019. With today's Eclipse your positive choices and intentions have power. With Uranus going direct in Taurus, it is a powerful time to embody your rebellious side and break out of old habits. Taurus lessons can be around the physical body and material realm, so moving the body is a healthy way to break out of ruts: exercise, dance, or whatever movement you are craving. Perhaps it's through ritual or invocation, bringing the spiritual into the physical, and creating a practice. As I said in my Lunar Eclipse post, my word for the year is self-care, so I'm using Uranus direct's energy to help buoy my daily practice. How about you? What's this look like for you? Today is the Lunar Eclipse (exact a 11:21 am PST) in the Wolf Moon—the first of 13 moons of the year. And it’s in the sensitive and loving sign of Cancer. Eclipses can be intense, but they also offer us opportunities to take an honest assessment of the things that are not working and change them. With the Sun in Capricorn, it’s a time of stepping up to take responsibility for what isn’t working for us. We started off the year with some positive energy last week! We're into week two and there are already three potent cosmic events, making it an intense start—and not the best way—to the year. The Cancer Lunar Eclipse is Friday January 10th at 11:21 am (not visible from America). The year begins with Full Moon in Cancer and we will end the year with one too (though December 29th won’t be an eclipse)! This puts a spotlight on feminine energy (Cancer is a super feminine and maternal sign). This year will bring more awareness to the topic of feminine empowerment and leadership. UPDATE (Oct. 11, 2021): Jim Maynard didn't release a 2021 PDF version of the Celestial Influences calendar, as we had hoped, but I'm glad he is enjoying his retirement. I had thought someone would have purchased the rights to reprint, but alas. I'm updating this post with alternatives that have worked for me as a replacement to his calendar.
I’ve enjoyed Jim Maynard's Celestial Influences calendars for years and he’s retiring after 46 years of making this wonderful calendar. Quicksilver Productions (what he publishes under) says that they are trying to find a publisher to take over the calendar for 2021! I really hope they can find someone who can do as good a job as they have. When I first found out that there wasn't going to be a 2020 release, I went in search of another astro calendar. I thought this would be easy, but as it turns out, it wasn't because Maynard's calendar was an extraordinary and reliable resource. Happy Full Moon! It’s called the Cold Moon, it’s in Gemini, and it is a little intense. Here are my DivineMusings on the Moon and a collage piece from my upcoming deck, the Magical Child Oracle. Symptoms of Gemini Moon energy include over-analyzing, a racing mind, bottled emotions, excessive worrying, and negative self-talk. The remedy is to take time to journal or meditate to contemplate and reconnect with our emotions in order to get clarity. |
