While it's been a few years since I went to the Musée Français de la Carte à Jouer, it's about time I shared some photos of the tarot and Lenormand cards that I viewed during my visit. The pièce de résistance is one of the oldest known tarot cards, a 15th-century hand-painted gold-stamped work. I also share photos of some fascinating antique playing cards. There are many cards in their collection as you'd imagine. Please excuse some of my photos. I shot these in 2015 using a Samsung Note 2, so the photos just don't compare to current smart phones. That, plus the challenge of taking photos through display glass sometimes made it difficult to capture the cards. (They keep it dim in there, which actually made browsing the museum's collection a delight!) I did spend some time adjusting the photos in an app to try to improve them, but there's nothing I could do about light reflection. I hope you still enjoy looking through these!

The Lua Tarot and Lenormand have been nominated for the 2021 CARTA awards!
The Lua Tarot has been nominated for the following categories: *Best Tarot Deck *Best Self-Published Tarot Deck *Outstanding Artistic Achievement The Lua Lenormand has been nominated for: *Best Oracle Deck I'm so grateful and honored to have my work be included in the International Tarot Foundation judges' nominees list among some really incredible decks! My first unpacking of the USA's Pluto Return is in this post, which I wrote when it stationed retrograde (Rx) in April. I wanted to write more on Pluto Return since Pluto just stationed direct (October 6th) after being Rx for 6 months! The synchronicity of this astro event is really interesting, considering it's on the heels of the Facebook whistleblower's testimony yesterday, and after FB shut down for part of the day! In my opinion, much of the struggle the USA seems to be facing during its Pluto Return is the deepest divisiveness and polarization, which seems to have been fomented by the FB algorithm's preference for negative posts since they get the most engagement. Tristan Harris, Founder of the Center for Humane Technology, recently stated after Frances Haugen's testimony that: We are more profitable if we are addicted, outraged, irritable, disinformed, and polarized than if we're a human being. The Lua Tarot has been nominated Best Indie Deck at the WDA 2021 Awards! What an honor to be included in this group of incredible deck creators! Thank you to the folks who nominated it. If you'd like to support Lua Tarot, please take a moment to vote at the World Divination Assoc. Awards poll. To be counted, vote soon as the poll closes Sept 15th (London midnight), Tues., Sept 14th, 4:00pm PST. Thank you! I’m excited to announce that Divine Muses has partnered with One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every deck order!
Starting with the second edition releases of the Divine Muses Oracle, Lua Tarot, and Lua Lenormand decks last month. If you purchased a deck in July, your order went to planting a tree! This organization gives me so much hope! One of the biggest news of the year for them was their partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute to plant 3 million trees in the Albertine Rift Forest of Uganda to help protect the chimpanzee habitat! >>>>> The Lua Tarot cards and the Divine Muses Oracle sets have been restocked locally in the Portland area at Raven's Wing and Invoke (now in Silverton), and in Seattle at Tenzing Momo. If you're a brick and mortar shop who would like to carry my self-published creations, please contact me. If you'd like to see my work in your favorite local mystical shop, let them know I have decks for wholesale. Thank you. The 2nd edition Lua Tarot and Divine Muses Oracle orders are now making their way to their new homes! Thank you so much for your generous support of these decks!
It looks like a lot of work, and it was. But, it was kind of fun to pack them up. You get into a groove and it all becomes a working meditation. I was listening to music and infusing your packages with gratitude and blessings. If you placed an order last night and today, I will start working on those this evening. I just need to catch my breath. Next batch of orders will go to the post office tomorrow. If you’re interested, there are still a few Lua Lenormand "miscut" gifts available with a Lua Tarot order. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Decks have landed! I have some organizing to do, but orders will open for both the Lua Tarot and Divine Muses Oracle decks this Friday July 9th, on the New Moon, which is a Cazimi Moon! I’ll share more details later and also be sending out an email to my notification list once the decks are live in the shop. You can subscribe you’d like to receive that email. It’s amazing that both of the decks arrived at the same time! Making this an unintentional double release of these second editions. The Retreat card generally means it’s time to pause and create space for solitude & silence. Or, it may be necessary to take a long break, especially if you’ve been burning the candle at both ends. Another message, here locally at least, is needing to Retreat from the heat. The weather app says it’s supposed to be 115° (45.5° C) here! If you don’t know, many people in the Pacific NW USA don’t have AC, so this weather event can be quite dangerous here. There are cooling centers in the area for those seeking reprieve from the heat. I am taking a break from work and am officially on vacation Friday, June 26th to Monday, July 5th. I won't be shipping items from the shop or replying to emails during this time. If you place an order, items will ship Tuesday, July 6th. Thanks for your patience & understanding while I'm away. Stay safe and hydrated. Summertime blessings! The Lua Tarot has been featured in PARQ Magazine, a Portuguese trends magazine dealing with art, photography, fashion and urban lifestyle. “Portuguese American deck creator Maree Bento’s Lua Tarot is unusual in the way it manipulates obscure 19th Century engravings and is an attempt to create deck which appears at first glance historical yet is contemporary in its diversity and inclusiveness...” Read the full article in English by tarotist Roger Winstanley. |
